ABOUT CSAW
Our Goals
In the context of a warming climate, urban growth, and environmental injustice in Atlanta, CSAW will provide a transformative BRIDGE between Geosciences and diverse communities our goals are to:
- Build and formalize a learning ecosystem with researchers, postbaccalaureate, Master’s students and community partners to solve socio-environmental challenges.
- Recruit diverse cohorts of post-baccalaureate and Master’s students for professional development, community engagement, and networking training, with a focus on centering justice, equity and inclusion.
- Implement training, programming and pedagogy protocols to recruit, mentor and support diverse students, community collaborators and faculty in the geosciences.
- Develop an asset-based model of collaboration with community-driven research to include formal training, accountability and assessment for engagement practices and outcomes.
- Grow a network, materials and prototype to expand the CSAW learning Ecosystem model to other communities, universities and institutions.
Funding for this Atlanta-focused work will provide a model for national geosciences transformation. This project is a collaboration between academic institutions (Georgia State, Emory, and Spelman) and community partners (ECO-Action and WAWA), which builds on ten years of collaborative research relationships.
An overarching goal of this project is to develop further and institutionalize this collaborative model, evaluate and refine accountability, inclusivity and transparency principles and expand this model for the geosciences community more broadly.
