The 2021-2022 academic year has been a banner year for both faculty and students in the Department of Geosciences. We’re particularly proud to announce that several department faculty have been recognized for their work through college-, university- and discipline-wide awards.
Assistant Professor Dr. Sarah Ledford was honored as one of three recipients of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Dean’s Early Career Award. The award recognizes early-career faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences who are emerging leaders in their field of research, scholarship, or creative activity.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Nadine Kabengi was recognized with the college’s Outstanding Faculty Diversity Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement across research, teaching and service in support of diverse student populations. Dr. Kabengi previously served as the Graduate Program Director for the Department of Geosciences before taking on the position of Associate Dean of the Graduate School.
Finally, Nyasha Dunkley, a part-time instructor in the department was honored with CETLOE’s Outstanding Part-Time Instructor Award. In addition to her excellence in teaching GEOG1112 Intro to Weather and Climate at GSU's downtown and Perimeter campuses, Nyasha serves as the Deputy State Climatologist in the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Beyond college and university-level recognition, Senior Lecturer Dr. Christy Visaggi was named the 2022 recipient of the Biggs Earth Science Teaching Award from the Geological Society of America's Geoscience Education Division.
