From the Summit of Mt. Baker
Geosciences students Sharon Murphy and Chelsea Zakas reached the summit of Mt. Baker, Washington, with GSU President Mark Becker! They spent a semester training and preparing for the arduous and dangerous climb. Sharon and Chelsea hiked with a backpack weighing 40 pounds on a trail system of varied terrain, including snow, ice, mud and rocks. The climbs involved elevation changes of up to 5,000 feet at a time, and lodging was in tents, sometimes on snow. The goal of the trip was for the students to work as a team and develop an understanding of what motivates them, how they understand obstacles and set goals for their life. Congratulations to our Geoscientists on Mt. Baker!
