Dr. Timothy Hawthorne appointed to new AAG initiative

Friday – January 25, 2013

Dr. Timothy Hawthorne has been appointed as one of five Global Connections Ambassadors for the My Community, Our Earth (MyCOE) Research Initiative of the Association of American Geographers funded through a grant by the U.S. State Department. The initiative brings together scholars and students from around the world to “examine sustainable development using a geographic perspective that allows innovative responses to local community challenges.” The initiative also focuses on developing global connections and partnerships between K-12 students in the U.S. and K-12 students in developing countries. As part of the project, Dr. Hawthorne and his M.A. student, Craig Skelton, will connect Atlanta schools and youth organizations with students in the developing world using a Community Geography and GIS framework to explore issues related to sustainable development.
